Can you claim benefits if you are a full-time student?

Most full-time students can’t claim income-related benefits but you may be able to make a claim if you: are a lone parent. have a partner who is also a student – and one or both of you are responsible for a child.

What benefits can university students claim?

Universal Credit You are responsible for a child. You get Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and you have limited capability for work. You are over pension credit age. You live with a partner who can claim Universal Credit.

Full-time undergraduates Full-time home undergraduate students are not usually entitled to welfare benefits. If you are currently claiming benefits, you must notify your job centre that you will be embarking on a full time course of study at university.

Can I claim PIP if I am a student?

You can get PIP or Attendance Allowance even if you are a full-time student. This means any income (including student grants or loans) or savings you have are ignored. If activities you do as part of your course suggest that your health has improved, your PIP or Attendance Allowance may stop.

Can I claim ESA if I am a full-time student?

It is no longer possible for most people to make new claims for income-related ESA. As a full-time student, you will only be able to claim income-related ESA if you are also getting Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP). or Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).

Can you work full-time and claim DLA?

Disabled individuals can still receive benefits while attending school. In fact, attending college or other forms of education is often encouraged. But rest assured, you can attend school while receiving SSDI.

Will a maintenance loan affect my benefits?

Entitlement to Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit remains unchanged by study or student funding. However, your Maintenance Loan and Maintenance Grant will affect and reduce your income-based benefits e.g. Housing Benefit and Income Support. Your student income can cancel out payment of some benefits altogether.
